An active pattern continues for much of the Heartland; much colder air ahead for most

Looking ahead, the 6- to 10-day outlook calls for the likelihood of above-normal temperatures across the eastern half of the U.S., while colder-than-normal conditions will prevail from the Pacific Coast to the High Plains.

Meanwhile, near- or above-normal precipitation across most of the country should contrast with drier-than-normal weather in northern California, the northern Great Basin, and the Northwest.
