Another major spring storm organizes across the Heartland; a heavy rain event follows for some
A powerful low-pressure system over the central Plains will reach the upper Great Lakes region early Thursday before drifting across eastern Canada. Heavy, wet snow will fall Tuesday from parts of the Dakotas into the upper Great Lakes region, with accumulations potentially complicating ice storm recovery, especially in northern Wisconsin.
Meanwhile, weather hazards across the south-central U.S. will include high winds, an elevated wildfire threat, and blowing dust.
Along the storm’s trailing cold front, locally severe thunderstorms will develop later Tuesday across portions of the central and southern Plains.
Across the mid-South and lower Midwest, showers and thunderstorms will develop by mid-week and persist for several days, leading to a significant risk of flooding.
Five-day rainfall totals could reach 4 to 10 inches or more from northeastern Texas into the Ohio Valley, including areas in Kentucky and western Tennessee that experienced major flooding in mid-February.
