A storm system currently crossing the Ozark Plateau will drift northeastward and intensify, reaching the lower Great Lakes region at mid-week. Subsequently, the storm will begin to weaken, eventually moving north of New England by Friday. On February 25-26, significant snow may fall from eastern Iowa into parts of the Great Lakes region, including Chicago. Meanwhile, storm-total rainfall could reach 1 to 2 inches or more in the Southeast, with similar amounts possible along the northern Atlantic Coast. In the storm’s wake, tranquil weather will prevail nearly nationwide for several days. However, a surge of cold air will trail the storm, starting across the Rockies and Plains but eventually sweeping into the East.
