Brownfield Ag Weather Today

A storm system currently traversing the central and southern Appalachians will exit the middle Atlantic Coast later Monday.  Disruptive accumulations of wintry precipitation will end tonight across the mid-Atlantic, although snow showers will linger in the Appalachians and downwind of the Great Lakes.  Very cold air will trail the departing storm, with sub-0°F overnight temperatures expected to persist through the middle of the week as far south as the central Plains and western Corn Belt.  However, fresh snow should help to insulate winter wheat, especially on the central Plains.  Meanwhile, the threat of sub-32°F temperatures will continue for the remainder of the week as far south as south-central Texas and northern Florida, with key winter agricultural regions in Deep South Texas and peninsular Florida at risk for frost and light freezes.  Late in the week, a new storm system may form over the northern Gulf of Mexico, with precipitation expected to return in the southern and eastern U.S.
