Brownfield Ag Weather Today

A powerful low-pressure system crossing the western Corn Belt will reach the upper Great Lakes region early Thursday and the Canadian Maritimes on Friday.  Wet snow will subside later Wednesday across the upper Midwest, but severe thunderstorms will continue to hammer an area stretching from the lower Great Lakes region to the southeastern Plains.  Over the next several days, a nearly stationary frontal boundary will develop across the mid-South and lower Midwest, heightening the risk of major flooding from 5-day rainfall totals that could total 4 to 10 inches or more.  Rain in the mid-South may result in flooded lowlands and could wash out winter grains and recently planted summer crops.  During the weekend, heavy rain will finally shift eastward, but sharply colder air will begin to overspread the central and eastern U.S.  Producers in the South will need to monitor the intensity and progress of the upcoming cold wave, which should peak during the early to middle part of next week.
