Brownfield Ag Weather Today

Portions of the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands are bracing for a direct hit from Super Typhoon Sinlaku, which early Monday had formidable maximum sustained winds near 180 mph but has begun to very slowly weaken. Still, Sinlaku should cross the Marianas near Tinian or Saipan late Tuesday local time with sustained winds likely peaking between 130 to 150 mph. Meanwhile across the continental United States, a series of fast-moving, loosely organized disturbances will generate occasional showers and thunderstorms. Five-day rainfall totals should reach 1 to 3 inches from central Texas into the Great Lakes region, eastward into northern New England. Much of the West will also experience occasional showers—rain and snow—with the highest totals (locally 1 to 2 inches or more) expected from the Pacific Northwest to the northern Rockies. However, mostly dry weather will prevail during the next 5 days in a few areas, including the Southeast—where record-setting warmth will develop—and much of the central and southern High Plains.
