A cold front linked to moisture associated with the North American monsoon circulation will remain active as the week progresses, generating as much as 1 to 4 inches of rain from the northern half of the Plains into the southern Corn Belt. Higher totals may occur in the middle Ohio Valley and central Appalachians. South of the cold front, hot, humid, mostly dry weather will prevail, with any showers limited to the Southeast and areas near the Gulf Coast. The southern half of the Plains will also remain hot and mostly dry. Meanwhile in the western U.S., diurnal thundershowers should become more widespread during the mid- to late-week period, except in the Pacific Coast States.
