Brownfield Ag Weather Today

Former Hurricane Lala, which passed about 50 miles south of South Point, Hawaii, on August 15, is currently moving away from the populated Hawaiian Islands. Areas of Hawaii affected by flooding and debris flows related to Lala’s excessive rainfall (locally 24 to 36 inches or more on the Big Island) will have mostly favorable weather conditions as recovery efforts commence. Meanwhile on the U.S. mainland, extreme heat will be confined to the Deep South for the remainder of the week, although temperatures will slowly rise across the High Plains and much of the West. Midwestern temperatures will remain favorable for summer crops, with occasional readings above 90°F confined to parts of Missouri. In central sections of Illinois and Indiana, residual lowland flooding will slowly subside, following last week’s rainfall totaling as much as 4 to 12 inches. During the next 5 days, a pair of cold fronts will maintain unsettled weather in the Midwest. Rainfall should be more evenly distributed than last week, although 1- to 3-inch totals may occur from the central Plains to the mid-Atlantic. Showers will dot the Southeast, but hot, dry weather will persist in the south-central U.S. In the West, the monsoon will be moderately active, with rain mostly bypassing the Pacific Coast States and the Great Basin.
