Brownfield Ag Weather Today

The core of the eastern heat wave has shifted into the southern U.S. and merged with high heat on the Plains.  Temperatures Monday will push well into the 90s across the Southeast and Gulf Coast States and reach or top 100°F on the central and southern Plains.  However, a strong cold front currently entering northern Montana will bring more substantial heat relief as it sweeps across the eastern half of the nation, clearing the East Coast by Thursday.  As the front encounters a hot and humid airmass, it will generate heavy rain and severe thunderstorms; areas at greatest risk for severe weather and locally excessive downpours include the central Corn Belt on Tuesday and the Northeast, Mid-Atlantic, lower Corn Belt, and northern Delta on Wednesday.  However, the front is expected to largely dissipate across the Deep South by Thursday.  Meanwhile, an influx of moisture from both the western Gulf of Mexico and Southwest monsoon will lead to increasing shower chances across the Rockies and Plains by mid-week, though Texas will remain dry.  Otherwise, western precipitation will mainly be limited to monsoon showers in the Four Corners.
