Brownfield Ag Weather Today

An early-August heat wave will grip much of country for the next several days, although the Midwest and Northeast will be spared from significantly elevated temperatures.  In fact, temperatures will remain below 80°F early next week from the upper Midwest into New England, as an unusually strong cold front for this time of year presses southward.  Meanwhile, a vigorous tropical wave currently traversing the Greater Antilles will approach southern Florida early in the weekend, with development into a tropical cyclone likely to occur as the system moves near peninsular Florida or over the eastern Gulf of Mexico.  Five-day rainfall associated with the fledgling tropical system could reach 5 to 10 inches or more from Florida (excluding the western panhandle) to the coastal Carolinas, leading to potential flash flooding.  If tropical development occurs, as expected, additional hazards may include squally, windy weather and a coastal storm surge.  Farther north, showers in the far eastern Corn Belt should end Saturday, while mostly dry weather will prevail during the next 5 days from the southeastern Plains into the mid-South.  Early next week, thunderstorms could become heavy in the vicinity of the Northern cold front, with 1- to 3-inch totals possible from Montana into the Northeast.  The West, however, will remain hot and dry, aside from spotty monsoon showers.
