Brownfield Ag Weather Today

Milton will be a major, life-threatening hurricane when making landfall late Wednesday or early Thursday along Florida’s Gulf Coast.  A storm surge of 10 to 15 feet may occur from just north of Tampa Bay southward to near Englewood, Florida, while rainfall could total 6 to 12 inches or more along and near the storm’s path, including the I-4 (Tampa to Daytona Beach) corridor.  High winds will also accompany the hurricane’s path across Florida’s peninsula, with hurricane-force gusts (74 mph) or greater expected well to the south of Milton’s track.  Florida commodities that could be harmed by Milton include citrus, sugarcane, and strawberries, as well as ornamentals and aquaculture.  The remainder of the country will experience mostly dry weather during the next 5 days, although late-season warmth in the western and central U.S. will contrast with relatively cool weather in the East.  Showers may affect areas along the northern Pacific Coast, as well as the upper Great Lakes region and New England.
