Much colder days ahead for much of the Heartland; a more active pattern to return

Looking ahead, the 6- to 10-day outlook calls for the likelihood of below-normal temperatures northeast of a line from northeastern Montana to the western tip of Florida, while warmer-than-normal weather will cover the nation’s southwestern quadrant, along with the northern Intermountain West and the western Gulf Coast region.

Meanwhile, near- or above-normal precipitation across most of the country should contrast with drier-than-normal conditions in the southern Atlantic region and the Pacific Northwest.
