Frequent periods of heat, with scattered storms ahead next week across the Heartland

Looking ahead, the 6- to 10-day outlook calls for near- or above-normal temperatures and rainfall across most of the country.  The greatest likelihood of high heat will extend from the central and southern Plains into the Southeast. Cooler-than-normal conditions will be confined to the Pacific Northwest.

Meanwhile, drier-than-normal weather should be limited to an area stretching from central California into the Great Basin.
