Hot weather, extreme heat to remain largely focused on the Plains; flood potential parts of the Ohio Valley

Looking ahead, the 6- to 10-day outlook calls for the likelihood of above-normal temperatures nationwide, except for cooler-than-normal conditions in parts of the Desert Southwest. 

Meanwhile, near- or above-normal rainfall in the eastern and western U.S. should contrast with drier-than-normal weather across the Plains and parts of the upper Midwest.
