Major early-Winter storm ahead for southern Wisconsin

A major winter storm is still on track to affect southern Wisconsin and the western Great Lakes region, beginning Wednesday night and continuing into Thursday night.

Low pressure will organize and strengthen on the southern Plains during ednesday and then track northeast into northern Illinois Thursday morning. As the low continues to track northeast across northern Illinois into lower Michigan Thursday and Thursday night, the low will rapidly intensify into a major winter storm.

Heavy snow and severe blowing snow will result in near zeo visibility and whiteout conditions at times, and extremely hazardous if not dangerous travel conditions across southern Wisconsin. The heavy snow and blowing will likely cause road closures in rural areas. The heavy, wet snow and high wind will also cause scattered power outages.
