Wet weather pattern ahead to lead to renewed flooding, fieldwork delays for many

A period of active weather across the nation’s mid-section will persist through the weekend into early next week.

Multiple rounds of heavy showers and locally severe thunderstorms could lead to 5-day rainfall totals reaching 2 to 6 inches or more from central Texas into parts of the Midwest.

With some overlap between the current rain event and still-soggy soils (from early-April downpours) in the mid-South and lower Midwest, some producers may experience additional delays in resuming or starting spring fieldwork, especially in low-lying areas.

Farther west, there will be a sharp precipitation cutoff, with only light showers expected along and northwest of a line from the southern High Plains to near Lake Superior.  Similarly, little, if any, rain will reach the southern Atlantic States during the next 5 days, while mostly dry weather will also prevail in the Far West.
