Higher reference prices shape 2025 farm program payments

Widespread 2025 farm program payments are expected to reach farmers next month.

David Widmar with Agricultural Economic Insights says higher reference prices are helping trigger payments, while a one-time change means farmers will automatically receive the higher of their Ag Risk Coverage or Price Loss Coverage payment.

“The election that producers initially made is now not relevant. Producers are going to have the one-time benefit of getting the highest of ARC or PLC,” he says.
