57% of U.S. corn, 58% of soybeans good to excellent

The USDA’s national crop condition ratings were unchanged to higher over the past week. Weather conditions were widely mixed last week, ranging from hot and dry, to excessively wet, to near ideal for late summer.

57% of U.S. corn is in good to excellent shape, up 1% on the week, and 86% of the crop has dented, 42% has reached maturity, and 8% is harvested, all ahead of the respective five-year averages.

58% of soybeans are good to excellent, steady, and 44% of the crop is dropping leaves with 6% harvested, both faster than most recent years.

93% of spring wheat is harvested, compared to 92% on average.

8% of winter wheat is planted, compared to the usual pace of 12%.

36% of cotton is called good to excellent, a 2% improvement, and 57% of bolls are opening, with 8% harvested.

62% of rice is harvested, compared to 50% on average.

28% of sorghum is in good to excellent condition, holding with the prior week, and 97% has headed, 78% is coloring, 49% is mature, and 22% is harvested.

51% of U.S. pastures and rangelands are reported as poor to very poor, 2% less than last week.
