AGCO CEO encourages young farmers to embrace precision tech

The CEO of AGCO says understanding precision ag tools will be critical for the next generation of producers.

“Run towards technology and run towards data.”

Eric Hansotia says working with young and beginning farmers is one of their biggest priorities.

“We think they are our future,” he said. “For a lot of our solutions we have focus groups that target them and say, ‘How do you want to manage data? How do you want to interface with the machine?’”

He tells Brownfield his advice is to learn how to operate so-called “smart” machines and understand how to manage on-farm data.

“There’s no room for inefficient operators anymore, unfortunately,” Hansotia said. “It’s just a tough marketplace, and so you’ve got to always be leaning into the new stuff and the new stuff is largely about data and technology.”

Hansotia, who grew up on a dairy farm in central Wisconsin, says he knows firsthand how important it is for young producers to embrace innovation.

He spoke to Brownfield at the 2026 Farm Progress Show.
