“Bean Binoculars” website offers farmers national insight
A North Carolina State University Extension soybean specialist says a new website allows farmers to keep up to date with emerging soybean issues as they happen.
Rachel Vann says the “Bean Binoculars” map serves as an early warning network for agronomic issues.
“With each issue you’ll get a description of the issue, some high-quality photos, and some research-based resources that go along with how you might resolve that issue or considerations for the future,” she says.
She tells Brownfield it can give farmers validation on local issues, and perspective on a national scale.
“As our pest complexes evolve and the challenges we see in certain areas expand to other areas,” she says, “we think there’s value for both short-term early detection and long-term early detection.”
Vann says the “Bean Binoculars” site is part of a national effort called “Better Together,” which includes organizations like the Crop Protection Network, Science for Success, the SCN Coalition, and several others.
