Carbon capture could expand ethanol market access

The executive director with Renewable Fuels Nebraska says the push to improve carbon emissions could help expand markets for ethanol.

Dawn Caldwell says carbon capture and sequestration projects in parts of the Midwest help produce low-carbon ethanol. “As we meet with folks with Japan for instance and even the EU is becoming more interested as well as the UK.”

She tells Brownfield, “We have not emitted the carbon dioxide into the air rather we have captured it and are we working toward utilization projects for carbon dioxide coming off of the ethanol plants. The demand for that by large companies is really strong and incredibly encouraging.”

Caldwell says the projects have also had significant economic impact on rural communities, and the 45z tax credit has also helped spur the growth.
