Corn and soybean quality holding up in some areas

Some farmers say crop quality concerns haven’t been a big issue in their respective areas.
Lance Lillibridge, who raises a corn-on-corn rotation near Vinton in eastern Iowa, says he hasn’t detected any sprouting in his corn fields.
“We went to every field yesterday and hand shelled some corn and did not run into any ears that were sprouting,” he said. “I feel fortunate. I’m not saying it’s not there, we just haven’t seen it yet.”
Marc Zell farms in Linn County, Missouri, and tells Brownfield there has been some minor cases of corn sprouting but not much.
“I’ve heard of some places around that have had it a little worse and it’s showing up some, but we haven’t had any issues here,” Zell said. “And I don’t think there’s been any issues with the beans yet.”
Zell says harvest got off to a slow start, but improving weather should allow farmers to make significant progress in the week ahead.
