Crop variability is the name of the game

An agronomy specialist with Golden Harvest says crop conditions are a mixed bag across the Corn Belt.

“Places look really good and then across the road not so much.”

Stefan Swenson tells Brownfield challenging weather conditions have created some uncertainty for this year’s crop.

“The northern Midwest, a lot of drought conditions that are leading towards some variable harvest conditions for silage. As you head towards the I-States from a water standpoint, it’s just been an interesting year from that. There’s maybe a thousand different cuts that have changed things up.”

He says it’s a similar story in the far eastern portion of the Corn Belt.

“Leading towards a lot of standability concerns and so timely harvest is going to be a big focus here for everybody.”
