Indiana Governor Mike Braun has signed an executive order to temporarily allow farmers to use red dyed diesel on state highways to reduce harvest transportation costs.

The action does not authorize its use on interstates or U.S. highways, which are currently prohibited by federal law.

The executive order will take effect on October 6th and extend the state’s energy emergency through November 4th. The governor’s action also extends the suspension of the state’s gas taxes.

According to AAA, the average price of gasoline in Indiana is $3.81 per gallon, and diesel is $6.82 per gallon. The state currently has the lowest gas prices in the nation.
