House passes Continuing Resolution, hemp ban delayed

The general counsel with U.S. Hemp Roundtable says the impending ban on most hemp products has been delayed.

Jonathan Miller tells Brownfield, “A few weeks ago, the Senate passed a continuing resolution which extended that ban moratorium for a month.”  He says, “Tuesday the House overwhelmingly agreed to that, so it’s on the President’s desk, and we’re guaranteed he’s going to sign it. That’s going to give us until December 11th to come up with a regulatory framework.”

The resolution funds the federal government through the mid-term elections, and Miller says it now provides a path forward for potential hemp legislation.

“Had we lost on this, we would be seeing a ban in November.”  He says, “In December, however, there’s going to be another set of spending bills, and those would be the vehicles for a full hemp regulatory framework.”

Miller says the industry continues to push for regulations that protect consumers, prevent youth access to intoxicating products, provide certainty for farmers and businesses, and preserve access to lawful hemp products.
