July good month for soybean crush, corn for ethanol use

Soybean crush demand continues to be strong and ethanol production is consuming a lot of corn.

The USDA says 222 million bushels of beans were crushed during July, above pre-report estimates and up 4 million on the month and 17 million on the year.

That’s due to bullish margins as producers try to meet expected product demand, accounting for a growing sector of domestic soybean usage.

The high level of production did push soybean oil stocks above analysts’ projections and soybean meal stocks were larger than a year ago.

474.741 million bushels of corn were used to make ethanol in July 2026, rising 2% from June and 4% from July 2025.

Corn for ethanol use continues to make up a big portion of domestic corn usage, and producer and blending margins are supportive.

Production of distillers dried grains with solubles was 1,853,111 tons, 2% more than the previous month, but 1% less than last year.

The USDA’s updated soybean crush and corn for ethanol use estimates are out September 11^th.
