Leveraging innovation in the next generation of ag equipment
CLAAS Group CEO Jan-Hendrik Mohr says the next era of technology will focus on sustainability and efficiency.
“Fuel consumption, for example, is a topic and if you would be make available machines consuming 5, 10 or 15 percent points less compared to previous machine generations, it’s a huge advantage.”
He tells Brownfield artificial intelligence and machine learning will also have a role. “Algorithims, but then you’re just purely doing math. AI, of course, is more because it’s quite intelligent. AI is helping and supporting farmers by helping indentify areas of improvement.”
The company opened its $10 million, 45,000 square foot research and development facility at its North American headquarters in Omaha on Thursday. Mohr says the expansion will collect data from farmers throughout the Midwest to help meet the challenges in the industry. “Fuel consumption per bushel and things like that. Farmers like to have more and more data to be able to manage their farms more precisely. Thus, data availability is absolutely key.”
The investment is part of a multi-year $100 million growth project for North America.
