Michigan soybeans might get a yield bump following recent weather

Late August rains could have provided a boost for Michigan soybeans.

Crop advisor Jason Stegink with Wide Angle Agriculture tells Brownfield, “The moisture is helping finish the bean crop off for sure, as long as we didn’t get too dry.”

“There are some areas that this is just a little too little too late,” he says.

Stegink says dry conditions have caused pollination issues in corn across West Michigan and yields are likely variable.

In its latest crop progress report, USDA says Michigan’s corn is rated 59 percent good to excellent with 95 percent of the crop in the dough stage and 51 percent dented.

Michigan’s soybean crop is rated 54 percent good to excellent, with 19 percent of the crop dropping leaves.
