Political market volatility frustrating farmers

A pair of Illinois farmers say it’s a frustrating time in agriculture.
Mark Bunselmeyer is the newly elected president of the Illinois Corn Growers Association.
“We have these contentious times constantly with tariffs and different announcements day-to-day, and what kind of social media post might come on.” He says, “It’s tough to catch up just as a farmer, let alone as an organization.”

Don Guinnip, the organization’s new vice president, says the volatility makes turning a profit even more difficult.
“Trying to make an economic plan that you can understand, and the markets are so influenced by political decisions, there’s no way in the world to predict all that,” he says.
Guinnip tells Brownfield…
“We need to be in Springfield and in D.C., telling the politicians the true effects of things such as tariffs and regulations, and influencing them that the decisions they make have a significant effect on a lot of others,” he says.
Brownfield spoke with both at the annual meeting of the Illinois Corn Growers Association in Bloomington.
