Sorghum delivery map helps Nebraska farmer find better prices

A central Nebraska farmer says additional sorghum delivery locations are creating additional value for his crop.

Tyler Bose says utilized the state’s new sorghum delivery map to find more competitive pricing. “I ended up getting about a 30-cent premium between the two. I didn’t realize the other one was there.”

He says he’s begun additional sorghum acres, and it’s paying off. “Production costs are aobut $340 per acre on one of my more expensive sorghum fields. Apples to apples for one of my cheaper dryland corn fields, I’m sitting around $600 per acre on input costs.”

Bose tells Brownfield the difference has helped offset the increase in transportation costs despite the 90-minute round trip. “Ninety bushel per acre dryland sorghum would compare to 142 bushel per acre dryland corn. I have about $300 per acre in inputs I can spend in diesel to get it delivered.”

The delivery map was launched last year.
