USDA sees higher hay harvested area

The hay harvest is expected to be larger in 2025.

The USDA sees all hay harvested area at 49.725 million acres, 1.232 million above the March guess and 335,000 higher than 2024.

Harvested area for alfalfa and mixtures is pegged at 14.192 million acres, 420,000 less than last year, while other types of hay are seen at 35.533 million acres, a rise of 755,000.

Hay supply and demand, quality, and prices, are highly regional and can vary widely even within those regions.

The USDA’s next look at hay production will be out in August.
