Pilot project combines acreage reporting between agencies
A pilot project that began in Iowa and Illinois is to be expanded to other states in which farmers will be able to report acreage a single time to the Farm Service Agency and to the Risk Management Agency.
“It is intended to provide the opportunity for customers and insureds to report their acreage one time instead of having to report to FSA and to their crop insurance agent, in theory, the same information,” said Eric Swanson, Crop Underwriting Manager at Country Financial, in an interview with Brownfield Ag News at the Farm Progress Show.
The 2014 Farm Bill provided funding for the pilot, said Swanson, “so I do applaud USDA, the companies that were involved in the pilot, along with the FSA offices to recognize that there’s a need to streamline the reporting process throughout the country.”
