Weather impacting Minnesota hay and small grain harvest
Last week’s scattered showers made it difficult for Minnesota farmers. The USDA says there were just over four days where farmers could get in the field. That wetness hampered the hay and small grain harvest, and accelerated some soybean diseases… especially in southern Minnesota. The moisture also made lifting sugar beets difficult.
As of Sunday, the corn crop was rated 85% good to excellent, and soybeans 80% good to excellent. Ninety percent of the potatoes are good to excellent, and harvest is 25% completed and about a week ahead of normal.
Most of the state’s spring wheat, barley, and oats have been harvested.
