African Swine Fever footprint expands

The number of cases of African Swine Fever in China, Asia, and Europe is growing.

The Pork Checkoff says ASF has now spread to all provinces of China after the island province of Hainan was confirmed to have the disease last week.

Rabobank estimates 150 to 200 million pigs in China will be affected by ASF in 2019, which is almost 30 percent more than annual U.S. pork production and Europe’s annual supply.

Cambodia has also been confirmed as ASF positive as well as a new region of South Africa.

Luxembourg, France and Denmark are in the process of building barrier walls to keep wild pigs positive with the disease out of their countries.
