30-foot Wisconsin Christmas tree from Silent Night Evergreens tagged for White House

A Wisconsin grower will deliver the National Christmas Tree to the White House this year.

Third-generation farmer David Chapman of Silent Night Evergreens tells Brownfield it’s a tradition his family has been honored with five times during their 50-plus years of growing trees.

“We try to make every tree a very high-quality contest tree,” he says. “When you’re growing them commercially for the wholesale market, you want them all to be very similar, so you’re all trying to make them look the same.”

The White House Superintendent of Grounds made the selection this week at the farm in Endeavor.

“It is extra special when you can take one from your own farm and have one that large that will work,
 he says.

Chapman says he’s most excited for his children to experience the presentation just like he was able to when the family first won in 1988.

Growers must first win their state or regional competitions before the National Christmas Tree Association contest, which uses a combination of judging and a popular voting process.
