Farm Family Resource Initiative officially becomes Farm SOS

The mental health specialist with Farm SOS, formerly the Farm Family Resource Initiative, says the organization’s recently announced rebranding should make it easier for farmers to access specialized resources.

Rachel Brown says any Illinois ag professional can access free mental health services by calling the agency’s helpline.

“That name change was made to better align with our helpline number.”  She says, “That number is 1-833-FARM-SOS. Make it a little bit more consistent and easier for folks to find us.”

She tells Brownfield the economic downturn has brought an increase in producers seeking resources.

“We’re hitting tougher times right now.”  She says, “As the economy is struggling and we’ve had some different weather challenges going on lately, as things happen, we always encourage folks to call in. And calling the helpline is also the best way to get you connected to our free counseling sessions.”

Brown says farmers are eligible for six free counseling sessions, and more information can be found by calling the 24/7 helpline at 1-833-Farm-SOS.
