57% of U.S. corn, 58% of soybeans good to excellent

Rain in some key growing areas limited corn and soybean harvest activity over the past week.

The USDA says 18% of U.S. corn is harvested, matching the five-year average, but at the low end of expectations, with 96% of the crop dented and 72% mature, as the national crop rating held at 57% good to excellent.

17% of soybeans are harvested, also in-line with most recent years but at the low end of expectations, with 75% dropping leaves and the national crop rating steady at 58% good to excellent.

Rain is also having an impact on winter wheat planting, which is 27% complete as of Sunday, compared to 34% on average, while 8% has emerged.

35% of cotton is called good to excellent, up 1%, and 70% of bolls are opening with 17% of the crop harvested.

80% of rice is harvested, compared to the usual pace of 69%.

27% of sorghum is in good to excellent condition, down 1%, with 93% coloring, 67% mature, and 29% harvested.

51% of U.S. pastures and rangelands are good to excellent, 2% less than the previous week.
