57% of U.S. corn, 58% of soybeans good to excellent

National crop condition ratings were mixed over the past week. Key U.S. growing areas continue to experience a wide range of weather, and at this stage of the season for many crops, focus is has shifted from ratings to yield and yield potential.

The USDA says 57% of corn is in good to excellent shape, unchanged on the week, with 92% at the dough making stage, 62% dented, and 13% mature.

58% of soybeans are good to excellent, 2% lower, with 95% at the pod setting stage and 13% dropping leaves.

As of Sunday, 77% of spring wheat is harvested, compared to the five-year average of 68%.

39% of cotton is called good to excellent, 2% higher, and 89% of the crop is setting bolls with 29% of bolls opening.

38% of rice is harvested, ahead of average, with 71% in good to excellent condition, up 3%.

28% of sorghum is rated good to excellent, a gain of 1%, and 17% is harvested, slightly behind most years, with 89% headed, 54% coloring, and 29% of the crop mature.

Just 18% of U.S. pastures and rangelands are reported as good to excellent, a week-to-week decrease of 3%, and 52% is poor to very poor, an increase of 2%.
