Crop conditions in great shape 

A northeast Nebraska farmer says his corn and soybeans have made a remarkable turnaround. 

Greg Anderson says it was an incredible dry spring and early summer. Then, “The rain started to fall, and since from the end of July or last couple of days of July up until the present, I’ve had well over 6 inches of rain, which has really revitalized the pastures and the hay ground, most importantly of the soybean crop,” he says.

In its latest crop progress report, USDA says Nebraska’s corn is rated 58 percent good to excellent with 92 percent of the crop in the dough stage and 63 percent dented.

He tells Brownfield he has high expectations for harvest. 

“This came at a very timely way and manner, and really kind of spoon-fed the soybean crop with rains every three days, you know, plentiful amounts, not too much, no storms,” he says.

Anderson says he expects soybean harvest to get underway in less than a month. 

The USDA says the soybean crop is rated 65 percent good to excellent, with 95 percent of the crop setting pods and 11 percent dropping leaves.
