Alice in Dairyland reaches halfway point, applications open

The new year means Wisconsin’s Alice in Dairyland Sarah Hagenow has reached the halfway point of her one-year term.

She tells Brownfield it’s been a whirlwind so far. “There has been so much to take joy in, lots of events, visiting classrooms, being able to promote the message and goodness of Wisconsin agriculture in many different ways. It truly is something I’m soaking up with every moment, and I can’t believe there’s only six month to go.”

Hagenow encourages women to consider serving a year as the next Alice.  Applications are open now and close January 30th.

Hagenow says the applicants will be narrowed down to the top six candidates, and then all those finalists go through intensive training. “For each woman that goes through the top candidate process, she gets a marketing and communications certificate at the end on behalf of the Wisconsin Department of Agriculture, Trade, and Consumer Protection that signals she went through a great training program.”

The 79th Alice in Dairyland will be selected in Marathon County May 16th.

Hagenow spoke to Brownfield after working with Wisconsin Rapids high school students on ways to prepare potatoes.

Alice in Dairyland is a one-year, full-time public relations professional employed by the Wisconsin Department of Agriculture, Trade, and Consumer Protection who promotes all things agriculture in Wisconsin.
