Big decline in broiler sets as placements stay ahead of 2025

Broiler sets fell sharply over the past week.

The USDA says 245.722 million broiler-type eggs were set into incubators, falling 2.959 million on the week partially due to high heat in some areas impacting laying efficiency, but rising 2% on the year because of the larger overall number of layers.

195219 million broiler-type chicks were placed into meat production up 1.784 million from the previous week and 1% from a year ago, with cumulative placements 2% ahead of last year.

The USDA continues to expect a year-over-year increase in U.S. broiler production, with the next estimate out October 9^th.

Arkansas: Sets: 25.602 million eggs, compared to 25.84 million the week before; Placements: 21.791 million head, compared to 22.403 million the prior week

Kentucky: Sets: 7.737 million eggs, compared to 7.731 million the week before; Placements: 5.814 million head, compared to 5.925 million the prior week

Missouri: Sets: 8.63 million eggs, compared to 8.662 million the week before; Placements: 4.844 million head, compared to 5.544 million the prior week

California/Tennessee/West Virginia: Sets: 15.715 million eggs, compared to 15.828 million the week before; Placements: 13.982 million head, compared to 13.644 million the prior week
