California dairy expands recall on raw milk products

A California dairy is recalling all its products from store shelves.  The California Department of Public Health says it has secured a broad, voluntary recall of all raw milk and cream products from Raw Farm LLC due to possible H5N1 avian influenza contamination.  The recall includes raw milk, cream, cheese, and kefir, as well as raw milk pet food topper and pet food kefir.

Raw Farm LLC had issued a partial recall of two product lots in late November, but the farm is now quarantined after the virus was recently detected in retail, storage, and bottling sites.

California officials say so far, no human cases of avian influenza have been connected with the Raw Farm LLC products.

Raw Farm LLC markets raw milk and dairy products that have not been pasteurized, which is legal in California and some other states.  USDA, the Center for Disease Control, and the Food and Drug Administration all say pasteurized products remain safe for consumption.
