Cargill, McCarty Family Farms partner to build out interactive dairy learning experience

A new partnership with Cargill and McCarty Family Farms is helping students learn about the importance of dairy nutrition.
Shelly Macumber says the Judy McCarty Learning Center in northwest Kansas is an interactive exhibit that demonstrates modern dairy production.
“They’re right in the middle of a real, working dairy,” he says. “From the soil to the crops we grow to the feed, nutrition, and technology. We just want to give students the opportunity to see it firsthand and have a better understanding of where their food comes from.”
Greg Shoemaker, North America commercial director for dairy nutrition at Cargill, says the display also showcases various types of feed rations.
“You’ll see a mix of ingredients,” he says. “The job is to mix all of those ingredients correctly and provide a healthy diet for the animal. It helps feed, sustain, and fuel them to be a healthy and productive animal. It’s fun, engaging, and educational all at the same time.”
Macumber says Cargill’s investment also helped bring the exhibit to MVP Dairy in northwest Ohio.
