Demand fuels August soybean crush, corn for ethanol use

The August soybean crush was the largest for the month on record.

The USDA says 210 million bushels of beans were used to produce meal and oil, down 12 million from July, but up 12 million from August 2025.

That comes as crushers try to meet feed, food, and fuel demand.

The year-over-year rise in production did push soybean meal stocks above year ago levels, but soybean oil stocks were down due to demand.

Demand for corn to be used in ethanol production continues to be solid.

The USDA says 477.732 million bushels of corn were used to make fuel alcohol during August 2026, slightly more than in July and 4% above August 2025.

Production of distillers dried grains with solubles was 1,845,438 tons, a decline of less than 1% on the month and 2% on the year.

The USDA’s updated soybean crush and corn for ethanol use projections for the current marketing year are out October 9th.
