Drier weather could help restart harvest in southwest Iowa
A southwest Iowa farmer says a break in the weather could finally allow harvest to resume.
Duane Aistrope says frequent rains over the past several weeks have raised concerns about crop quality.
“I’ve seen some reports of soybeans trying to sprout in the pods and corn starting to sprout at the end of the ears,” he said. “Hopefully that won’t be an issue. If you get your combine set it will knock them sprouts off hopefully.”
He tells Brownfield he expects harvest to pick up considerably in the coming days as fields begin to dry out.
