Flood watch adds to harvest concerns across the Midwest
A southwest Iowa farmer says saturated fields are delaying harvest progress across the region.
“Basically, we’re wet like everybody else.”
Duane Aistrope says he managed to get in the field for a short time last week.
“We did do a little bit Thursday, like 5 acres,” he said. “There a few guys around that have picked a little bit. My corn that I tested was around 18 (percent). We definitely need some sunshine.”
He tells Brownfield the current forecast isn’t looking good.
“The last few days, nothing has been moving,” Aistrope said. “It don’t sound like it’s good for the rest of the week to be honest with you.”
The National Weather Service says a flood watch is in effect through late Thursday night for a large portion of the Midwest including Iowa, Nebraska, Missouri, and Kansas.
