Fuel costs a key factor for next year’s irrigation budget
A south-central Nebraska farmer says higher fuel costs could raise next year’s irrigation expenses.
Randy Uhrmacher says now is usually the time when he locks in diesel fuel. “You’re talking some serious dollars. Watch fuel prices and see what happens from here. Maybe there is an opportunity to lock some of that in too at a lower price if it were to happen to go down moving forward here.”
He tells Brownfield irrigation costs typically have the biggest impact on his bottom line. “It’s not a huge deal when you’re looking at trucks and tractors from a big picture.”
Uhrmacher says he didn’t see a major issue in costs this year since the run-up in prices didn’t happen until later in the growing season.
