Purdue’s College of Veterinary Medicine and One Health Innovation District expansion aims to strengthen workforce pipeline
The dean of Purdue University’s College of Veterinary Medicine says the development of the One Health Research Institute could help address the industry’s labor shortage.
Dr. Bret Marsh says the effort is part of a larger statewide push to increase workforce retention.
“It’ll be attractive to students, faculty, and staff,” he says. “We’re looking at the potential for a clinical trials hospital, a veterinary medical education and training center here. There’s even some conversations about having a diagnostic laboratory here on this campus.”
He tells Brownfield extending Purdue’s footprint beyond its West Lafayette campus will help connect students to new educational opportunities.
“There are great research collaborations that could happen here in Indianapolis, whether it’s Elanco, Eli Lily, or even collaborating with our colleagues at the IU School of Medicine,” he says. “I think there’s a great opportunity to expand the imprint and the impact of our veterinary program into Indianapolis and beyond.”
The college’s largest expansion in school history was announced earlier this summer with a goal of completion by 2032.
