Grassley proposes cutting diesel prices as costs squeeze farm income

U.S. Senator Chuck Grassley says there’s a way to alleviate high diesel prices.

The Iowa Republican tells Brownfield farm, trucking, and other industries have contacted the White House about costs that have doubled in the past year.

“Just lower that price ‘x’ number of dollars. I don’t know if it’s $1 or $2 a gallon, today it’s over $6. So let’s just reduce the price, take it out of the profit, and let (oil refiners) charge the global price for everything they export.”

Grassley also supports a temporary embargo on diesel exports through executive action.

He suggests lowering the domestic price while maintaining the global rate addresses concerns voiced by “Big Oil.”

“All the questions about export problems, you don’t have to raise all the questions about refining problems. You don’t have to worry about red diesel versus the non-red diesel, and every other problem that’s brought up about it.”

Grassley wrote on X Saturday that high diesel prices are killing farmers’ income.
