Harvest optimism despite summer weather challenges

A central Iowa farmer says he’s cautiously optimistic about the upcoming fall harvest.

Grant Kimberley is a sixth-generation farmer from Maxwell.

“Overall, I’d say things are looking pretty good. Now, we did catch that extremely heavy rainfall in early July at 10-13 inches.”

He tells Brownfield that large rain event was slightly problematic.

“We had some low-lying areas flooded out and a little wind damage with some goose necking of the corn, so there is some impact there that could impact some standability during harvest.”

But Kimberley says he’s confident yields will be at or above average in his area.
